Thank you all for expressing interest in becoming a certified BOY’S BASKETBALL official. Board 41 is the local chapter of the international organization IAABO, who educates and certifies officials worldwide. Once fully certified you will be able to obtain work in a multitude of leagues, including working middle school and high school level games for Nassau County BOCES.

The course will consist of both a rules course and a practical mechanics portion. The rules course consists of easy-to-follow on-line lessons, which will be reinforced with weekly fall classroom sessions, yet to be scheduled (Weeks of 9/7, 9/14, 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2). At the completion of this part of the course, you will need to pass an on-line 50 question exam (passing grade is 80%) in the first week of November.

There will be on-going Mechanics lessons given during the course, with a second exam that must be passed by the end of November. This will be supplemented with an additional on-court session or two prior to Thanksgiving. Candidates are not fully certified and deemed members of IAABO Board 41 until they have passed all examinations, participated in the court training and completed the required Game Observation Program established by Board 41(More information to follow). Once certified you will retain all rights of membership by meeting the following yearly requirements:

• – Attend a Yearly Rules Interpretation Meeting
• – Attend the Required Number of Membership Meetings
• – Take and Pass a Yearly Rules Refresher exam
• *** Officials in Their First Year Will Also Be Required To Take and Pass an Additional Re-Certification Exam ***
